You might wonder why a blowtorch isn’t a better option. It often isn’t. Flame-based tools create an open fire. That is a fire hazard. An open flame can ignite nearby materials and scorch the surface you are trying to repair. A heat gun uses forced hot air. It is safer, more controllable, and less likely to start a dangerous blaze in your workshop.
